So What’s Going On?
Event Description
"Puppet Meltdown" is lovely but demanding, and this time it wants to see what you can create! We're bringing back our puppet workshop /slam—your chance to make and showcase a slam piece all in one day.
Join us in the afternoon for a crankie machine workshop led by the talented Sea Beast staff. Each participant will craft their own original piece to present that evening as part of the Puppet Meltdown Puppet Slam. Whether you're a seasoned puppeteer or a first-timer, this is a great opportunity to create alongside other artists and bring your ideas to life.
Thanks to a grant from the Puppet Slam Network, we’re offering our Crankie class at a steep discount, but space is limited. Reserve your spot now, and don't forget to tell your friends to grab tickets for the evening show to see your creation in action!
What's a Crankie?
In short, it’s a box with a rolling backdrop inside used to tell a story. But oh it is so much more. Check out the video below to see one of the many forms a Crankie can take, made by Artistic Director Kat Pleviak. Then watch the “making of video" to see how she did it.
What's the Schedule? This day sounds crazy!!!

What is a puppet slam?
For those of you new to puppet slams, welcome! We're glad you stopped by. Puppet slams are cabarets of short works of puppetry created for an adult audience. That's right! Puppets are for all of us, and these pieces have been made just for you. So join us for a night of art brought to life through the medium of the puppet. It's new, fresh, bold, and experimental. We hope to see you there!
